We’ve got big news to share!!! Your Social Work Job, our new job board built just for social workers, is officially live! In this episode, we get into how it came together, why we built it, and what makes it different from just scrolling Indeed or LinkedIn for the hundredth time.

So many social work jobs don’t have “social worker” anywhere in the title, which means a basic keyword search misses most of them. We built this board to address that, using job titles we have been collecting from social workers across different industries.

We also chat about how to use the board and the various features and what’s next, including a newsletter and more resources on the way. We are so excited to finally share it with you!

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Why searching “social worker” alone makes you miss good job opportunities
  • How years of researching job titles for social workers turned into this board
  • What filters are built in: education level, location, job type, and remote options
  • How to read a job posting without talking yourself out of applying
  • What’s next, including a career-focused newsletter and more resources

The following is an unedited transcript of this episode:

Taylor (00:00)
Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Social Work to Wealth podcast here with Faith. It's just us two today.
Faith (00:11)
It's us.
Taylor (00:12)
I know. I love when we do our episodes together 'cause I feel like we don't always get to just to chat with each other. But this isn't really a chatty episode. We have some exciting news. More exciting news. This has been just like such a big year.
Faith (00:29)
Dude, we've been doing a lot this year. I'm a little overwhelmed, but it's it's exciting.
Taylor (00:34)
Yes. We've been doing it a lot. We're like, and here's a CE. And here's the here's a job board. Yay. So that's what this episode is about. We are launching a social work job job. My gosh. We're so excited. Yeah.
Faith (00:50)
my so excited.
Taylor (00:54)
I'm so excited. I feel like I'm also I'm just like, I don't even need I don't even need a job.
But for some I'm like really excited I'm not even gonna I'm not even gonna be using this. I'm just like really excited for everyone else. I know to finally see what we've been working.
Faith (01:09)
Yeah, I feel like we've taug we started talking about this like over a year ago for sure. And we're like, We gotta create that job board. We gotta create that job board. We're like, We will, we will. And then every time we would think about it, we get overwhelmed and we'd be like, We'll do it later. We'll do it later. That's a lot of work. That's a lot of work. So this is this is a big deal. This has been something we've thought about for a long time. What feels like a
Taylor (01:32)
Long time. I know. And it was your idea. I'm trying to think like when
Faith (01:38)
When it happened.
Taylor (01:39)
Yeah. I'm like, how did this come about?
Faith (01:42)
Well, I feel like the idea was really not my idea. It was an idea I heard about, right? From another profession. So we've talked about this before too. Like there's other professions that have job boards or have curated things for a specific profession. Like, and one specifically is let me get the actual title here. The informed SLP. SLP is speech language pathologist. They have a job board.
kind of like what we're doing for social workers, but where they are really trying to find high paying, high quality jobs for SLPs. And they have this really cool job board where they have criteria for employers. Like you can't post on the job board unless you meet certain criteria. like one thing is pay transparency. It's a big piece of their model. And I was, I heard that from my friend that she had heard about
informed SLP and was like, it's really cool. And I was like, social
Taylor (02:42)
We should do this for some
Faith (02:43)
workers. Like we need this for social workers. So it wasn't really my idea, but it was like thinking through how could we do this for social workers? And then I was like, Taylor, we gotta do this. And you're like, hell yeah, let's do this.
Taylor (02:56)
Yes,
yes. So yeah, there I mean there are two social work draw boards that I know of. Mm-hmm. I will not mention their names 'cause they're a competition. But I'm gonna I'm just gonna say I'm just gonna tutor on horn. Ours is way better.
Faith (03:18)
We like our job board a lot. We do, we do. I just feel like the fact that it's something that we've thought a lot about, we've researched a ton, like and we care a lot about it. I don't know. Like this isn't something that we've just like together.
Taylor (03:37)
Just quickly.
Faith (03:38)
Yeah.
Taylor (03:40)
Yeah. No. No, we've I mean, it kind of escalated quickly because I think last year, I feel like it was last year that we were talking about it. And then there was another job board that we came across kind of when we were really deep into, you know, tech trust and safety. We came across a job board, another specific, you know, industry needs job board, trust and safety jobs. Yeah. That
We really like the layout and the design and we thought maybe we should just reach out to that person who's been building that job board and see what's going on, you know, just just for a conversation. And so yeah. We met with him beginning of this year of 2026, Claudio. Shout out Claudio because we love you, Claudio. Because he has seriously he is the brains behind the helping us bring this to life.
but we met with him in the beginning of the year because that was kind of like quarter one goals. Let's just talk to Claudio and just see what the what how this all works. And then we were like, okay, we're not gonna commit, we're too busy, we're gonna do this maybe in the fall. And then he emails us. He well, he emails us a quote. And then and we're
Faith (04:58)
We were like, ooh.
Taylor (04:59)
like not right now. Like we want to make.
Faith (05:01)
What
we mean by quote we mean like hiring him and how much like we would need to front to make this project a reality.
Taylor (05:10)
Right.
And then we're like, okay, we're not gonna do it right now. And then he emails us probably like a month later and was like was saying, Hey, I'm trying to get into this job board space. You know, he already had like three other job boards, but he's wanting to help other people build theirs. And so he just felt like he said, I think yours would be a great use case. I'm willing to do fifty percent off if you wanna start, you know, if you if you wanna sign this contract within essentially like the week. So we were like
Faith (05:38)
pressure like
let's do it. Okay, let's do it.
Taylor (05:41)
So what did we start that in March? I think March or April or whatever. March. so shout out Claudio because yeah, he definitely brought brought it to life and we've we spent a lot of a lot of time with him and and he lived in Italy. Just so so interesting, so random.
Faith (06:01)
Yeah. So we were just having these little international calls. Audio.
Taylor (06:05)
Right.
Faith (06:06)
Right. Building this, building this job board. And there's a lot we've learned and a lot that has gone into like the back end of things. And I think one thing that's really helped to build the job board, which I don't know if this is where we want to go next in the podcast, but like Taylor, your work of figuring out I mean, over the last like many, many years, like what types of work like jobs social workers can have.
have, what types of jobs they can apply for, and like the job titles they should be searching. Yeah. Is like our database of what you know, how a lot of this has been built. Because then you're you're telling your job board what to search for on a larger scale and what to pull onto the job board. And it's been cool to see like all of that work actually
show up in this way and actually create a huge awesome robust job or
Taylor (07:01)
Totally. Was not expecting that last I was not expecting that last year because last year was when I was thinking, Okay, you know what? There's so many job titles that social workers don't even know about that they can do, you know, that they can they can search this job or they're qualified for essentially. But it doesn't say social worker. I started, you know, compiling all these job titles.
Faith (07:23)
Months and months of work.
Taylor (07:25)
And then I just I didn't yeah.
I I hadn't foreseen that like that would really be influential into the draw board. So that's really awesome. I think, you know, the problem that a lot of us have experienced, and I remember experiencing this when I was graduating was trying to find a job, not knowing what to search, and just searching social worker and that essentially being it. And then especially with like Indeed and LinkedIn, you know, those are the main ones people use Glassdoor and then whatever.
other little job boards that you're looking at, looking at to find jobs, it's hard to know what to search. But then also there are just jobs that we can do as social workers that, like I mentioned, are not titled social workers. So I think one really important piece for us has been wanting to bring all of that together, like wanting to do the search for you. so that you could see the job on our job board and be like,
I would have never thought to search that job title. I have never thought to look into the company. and so Yeah, there's just hopefully less time wasted going through irrelevant listings and just Yeah.
Faith (08:39)
I mean, like that's part of the struggle in social work and part of the problem is like where are the social work jobs? Like or interviewing people with these really interesting jobs or whatever. And it was like, how did you find that job? I won an ID and like it's not there or I went here and it's not there. And it has to do with what you're searching and you're if you're just putting social work
in the search bar, you're just gonna get job titles that have the word social work in it. Yeah. And like a lot of social work jobs do not have the word social work in it. I did the same thing when out of like when I was looking for social work jobs. So the idea is we want to solve that problem. And we want all the social work jobs to be in one place that are not just titled social work and that you're qualified for and that pay well. Like that's the hope, right? Right now. so we're trying to solve that that problem.
And I think save you time and then just be the place where you can find or explore what kind of job you could have. You
Taylor (09:38)
Totally.
Faith (09:38)
just want to poke around and be like, I've always been interested in macro or I've always been interested in veterinary social work or I've always been interested in this and you just like poke around and see what's out there. You know? So
Taylor (09:49)
I made a job I made a a post on Instagram a couple of weeks ago. I guess at this time when this episode comes out in September, it'll be like two months, whatever. Anyways, about a library a library social work position. And I found that job on our job board. Yeah. So cool. Super cool. I mean, it says social work in the title, so maybe you would have been able to find it, but a lot of people in the comments are like, What? I had no idea that this was a thing. So, yeah.
Faith (10:18)
Yeah, and we're learning all the time too. We're like, I didn't know this was a thing because of what's being pulled on our job boards. Super cool.
Taylor (10:25)
Yeah. Yeah. I do want to point out, like, I know your inspiration, you know, or that you're kind of that sparked all of this was through SLP. You know, they informed SLP jobs and their criteria for salary and all of that. And so we're not quite there yet. Like I think right. I th I think right now our our goal is to just pull as many jobs as we can that we think that you're qualified for. We're not focusing so much on the salary piece. And so
I think that's just something just I just wanted to point out. Like there may be jobs on there that get pulled by, you know, the code or whatever that are really low. And so we we kinda went back and forth on like how do we wanna do this. I think we're it's still kind of a work in a work in progress on how we're gonna move forward in that way, you know. But
Faith (11:14)
you mentioned that because I do feel like while we really want social workers to be paid well and maybe in the future we could have something like that put in place. I think right now we went back and forth a lot on that. And we're like, we don't want to not have a job on there that's to somebody, it would be higher pay for them or it would be a really great opportunity for them just because of like what we think is a high paying job versus what
Somebody else might perceive as a high paying job. We just want all the jobs out there and then you can decide for yourself what feels
Taylor (11:49)
Yeah.
Faith (11:50)
right to you. because people are coming with different levels of experience, different degrees, different kind of locations and regions. And so what what needs
Taylor (12:01)
Different finances.
Faith (12:02)
different finance needs, what we perceive as a high paying job might not be what somebody else needs or wants. And so
We our first goal, we're starting small, just get the jobs on the board
Taylor (12:17)
Skip the draws on the board.
Faith (12:18)
and let people see what's out there. Yeah.
Taylor (12:22)
Yeah, definitely. Right. I do want to point out that this job board, your so your social work job board is US jobs only. Sorry to our international listeners, but this is just the job market that we know the best. And so that's where we're starting with. But we have talked about that we would love for this to expand to other countries. so hopefully we can get there. So if you're set outside the US, we see you.
You're on our radar, but right now we're we're starting with US jobs. How does it work? Okay. What what what what does it actually do? So it's free for career seekers, you know, if you want to look for a job, it's free for you. Employers do have to pay to up or advertise their job on our job board. So this is my ask to you, listener, social worker.
We want as many social workers to be looking at this job board so that it could be attractive, I guess, to employers. And so I would just love if you could share it with the social worker that you know or share it with your class or share it with just anyone so that we can really build this out and we can start kind of yeah, getting more people looking at the job board, employers looking at the job board because
Ultimately I think that's that's what employers want. I mean, I don't know. I I haven't hired anyone, but Yeah. That's the goal there. That's the
Faith (13:54)
goal.
And also like it's just gonna get better and better the more social workers are using the board, giving us feedback on the board, finding jobs they like on the board. Like if you find a job and you get hired and you found it through a board, like I would love to hear from you. Like how did that go? If you end up working for an employer who is a really great employer, we wanna know that. Like it would be super great to highlight good employers. Yeah, you know, high paying, well respect
treat their, you know, their staff well, like that'd be great. We wanna make it the place for social workers to find social work jobs. And so the only way we can do that is to have social workers interact with us or give us feedback. And yeah, so that's the that's the goal. So if like you're in grad school now, you're have you know, you wanna find a job right out of grad school, like share this with your class, share this with your professors. If you are a seasoned social worker who's looking for a job pivot, like
or a career pivot like we want to hear from you, like
Taylor (14:56)
Yeah. Yes. Yes.
Faith (14:59)
motivated to help and also to hear from you guys and get you guys on the board. So absolutely.
Taylor (15:04)
Yeah. So I mean we really I feel like the features that we have on there and you can go look it up right now, your social workjob.com. We haven't even said what we we called it. We I know we're like fifteen minutes in. We haven't even said the name. The
Faith (15:18)
What is the name of this job board?
Taylor (15:20)
name is your social work job. Yeah.com. So it's your social work job dot com. It's super simple layout, simple features essentially there's a search.
And you can type in an organizational name or you can just type in keywords to find specific types of jobs. Like if you wanted to type in forensic or utilization, you know. so there's a feature you can use there. And then we have a section where you can filter by full time, part-time contract, temporary. And then we have the education section. So I think that I think the education section for me is like
Well, I'm not gonna say this is my favorite feature. I feel like two favorite features. The remote jobs feature. Really cool. So that's an option. but I think the education piece is really important. I know, especially for I think about like my bachelors of social work people, bachelors individuals where I feel like sometimes they feel left out of the conversation or just left out of the job search like mess because a lot of the jobs that you know they're searching for
need you know, require master's degrees. And so there's an education filter where you can filter by master or by bachelor's, master's, and doctorate. So super excited for people there. There's a location and then salary and then you can do remote jobs or not. So I think that's also a really awesome feature because I know people are wanting to yeah work work remotely more.
Faith (16:58)
Yeah. Yeah. And want to know like right from the get-go, like, is that an option? You know, and so you can just eliminate jobs that don't that that is not specified for. So that's good. yeah, I had another thought while we were talking right now, like maybe you can remind or remind me and in reminding me, speak to our audience about why we left out like licensure as a filter.
Taylor (17:25)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm. So I remember us talking about that. There are a lot of different licensee licenses, associate licenses, like throughout the co throughout the country. You know, for example, I live in Oregon. So there's LCSW, which is, you know, I feel I feel like most states have the LCSW, but then Washington has L I C SW. And then there's like
And then I think Texas has LCSW-S. And then, you know, like in Oregon, we have an associate license and it's C SWA. And then, you know, I there's just like there are some that are consistent across the country, but then there are some that are not. Like I just learned this year that there's a an associate license in Florida and I think it's like RC RCSWI or something. I there's
There were just so many that I felt like it was gonna it it was gonna make it really complicated for us to kind of figure out how to implement that.
Faith (18:33)
It's not just like it's not like a simple like BSW, MSW, doctorate, right? Three options. It's like L C S W or LCSWI or like it's like all these other individual state named license or like certificate or associate. Yeah, so it's the filtering wouldn't work the way
Taylor (18:57)
The way that we have it built on the back end is just gonna be way too complicated. And and honestly, I think like that's just something that I feel like you as the job seeker can look for. I think what was most important for us to help filter for you was making sure that you were able to filter between BS, you know, like bachelor's, master's, doctorate, your location. Like I think we we kind of ranked what
filters are most important. Important. And the license was like not up there. I mean, I know the license is important for people, but y'all you'll get what I'm you get what I'm putting down. So yeah. That's where we're at for now.
Faith (19:39)
Yeah. And hopefully at some point the social work compact will pass or will get implemented. I'm like, it's implemented in states, but not yet like you can't apply to the social work compact, which I'm like, when is that gonna happen? Right. And maybe that will smooth some of this out. I don't know. But we'll see.
Taylor (19:56)
Yeah.
Yeah. So when you apply or when you look when you find a job on the job board, it's gonna take you back to the original like organization. So you're gonna apply on their website. Our goal is just to help find the job and put it in front of you. But when you apply, I guess this is kind of like how do you use a job board? You know, a little bit of a just some tips here. You're gonna go and apply on their website.
one thing I really like about our job board too is it tells you when the job was pulled to our job board. and so that's really cool because you can see like when are the like how new is this job?
Faith (20:38)
Yes, yes.
Taylor (20:40)
And ideally you're able to be maybe one of the first people who apply and that really ups your chances of potentially getting an an interview. So yeah. That's super cool.
Faith (20:51)
Yeah. And on that note with like the time frame of when the job is posted on our board and and and how long it should be on the board, if you see a job that has expired, like this is new, right? There are thousands and thousands of jobs on our job board. and we are doing our best to monitor them and get rid of old expired jobs. But if you see a job that you're like, this is expired, you c there's a flag feature where you can flag it for us so then we can then on our end remove it. So it's
just relevant jobs that are still open and accepting applicants versus just like these jobs that don't make sense to be on the board. So yeah. Help us out a little bit and let us know if you see something and have grace with us because like there's a lot of jobs out there.
Taylor (21:36)
I mean at this time of recording it's in it's August and there's 20,000 jobs on the board. So yeah, we're able to pull we're we're pulling like 500 jobs a day or more. And yeah, I think on that note too, you know, we are trying our best with the keywords and and pulling only relevant jobs, but there might be a job that slips in that's like cardiac therapist.
You know, 'cause it has therapists in the name. Something like that where you see it and you're like, Okay, this is clearly not a job that that anyone as a social worker or a therapist would, you know, yeah qualify for. It's just an accident. So again, also give us grace, but flag it for for us so we can we can remove that. and that
Faith (22:29)
And also then we update things on our end so that it filters it out in the future. Like we'll put in cardiac or something and like make sure that that doesn't get pulled again, but or try our best to make sure it doesn't get pulled again. But we need like social workers to help social workers out here and
Taylor (22:44)
Yeah.
Faith (22:45)
edit the board a little bit. Yeah.
Taylor (22:47)
Yeah.
Exactly. Yeah. I think that's a good segue into like reading the job descriptions. we're trying our best to bring in jobs that we think that you are qualified for. And so maybe there's a job that you're like, I didn't even think that this, you know, would be a social work job. For example, you know, there's contract and grants specialist. Or I think the one I don't have the page up anymore. I think I exit out, but essentially it was
an employee relations counselor at Chevron. And so you would be working through, you know, organizational conflicts, disputes, investigating, you know, harassment, things like that. It's an HR position. But I just want to encourage you and empower you to really read the job description. And even if it we're pulling in bachelors and math, we're pulling in roles that might not say
Bachelors of Social Work, Masters of Social Work. So don't just go down to the to the you know degree requirement and not see bachelor of social work and then jump off. Like the re most of the time the reason it's on the job board is because we think that you can do it. And so just read through the job description, skills, and see if this is something that, you know, you could you could actually do. It's it's okay if it doesn't say bachelor's of social work, masters of social work.
could say something else, but you still are qualified. Okay? You're qualified.
Faith (24:19)
You're qualified. And also I think it's important to say, like, I guess like right now as a therapist, I'm meeting with a lot of people who are like dealing with unemployment. Like the job market is rough right now. You should apply to a lot of jobs. Don't apply to one or two and be like, ugh. It's like, no, apply to a lot. Apply to jobs that fit you fit. You feel like I totally meet this job requirement. Like I am the best candidate ever for this job. Apply for those and then apply for the ones that you're like,
I could do forty percent of this job, I think. Apply for like all of it because and give it time and you're just gonna get better and better and better at interviewing or ap applying to things. and I think you just gotta give it time now nowadays and you gotta you've gotta cast a night a wide net. Yeah, and see if you catch a fish, which is an employer.
Taylor (25:08)
Right, exactly. Yeah. I think the last thing about using the job board is just like I know that still, you know, we have the features filtering where you can filter by your education or your location, but there's also this piece of you can search the j a job title or you can search a company. And I think it's still like, well, I don't know what to search. So we do have a resource that you can buy that has
all of the job titles that we're pulling. so if that's something that's interested, you know, would be helpful for you, it's one time purchase, you can find the link in the show notes or on the drop board to just help you kind of navigate searching the job board. It's not required. But if that's something that you want some support with, yeah, you can get it. So
Faith (25:57)
Tailor
c yeah, you'll make it available to people. And I think the other thing is this is we want this to be a resource that is free for social workers. And I think right now our plan is to just do the social social work board. But in the future the hope is that we can provide more and more career resources. S you know, similar to the titles list, but also like around your career, around interviewing, around resumes, around
You know, and so our I some of our ideas, just because I think Taylor and I always wanna bring people along with us as we're talking about these ideas, is like maybe we'll start a newsletter that's like career focused or something and there'll be resources in there. And so this is one of hopefully many kind of career
Taylor (26:46)
Yeah.
Faith (26:46)
focused resources we are hoping to offer people. So yeah, just to kind of add to what you're saying.
Taylor (26:53)
Yeah, definitely. So if you want updates, then get on the newsletter, which again that that link will also be in the show notes. So yeah, we're not committing to sharing any resources at this time because your girls are busy and
Faith (27:10)
We're tired.
Taylor (27:13)
tired.
Faith (27:14)
Yeah.
Taylor (27:16)
but yeah, get on the newsletter.
Go to your social work job dot com, share it, let us know.
Faith (27:23)
And LinkedIn. We have a LinkedIn now for your social work. Yeah, your social work job. There's a LinkedIn now for that.
Taylor (27:29)
LinkedIn page. I think that's essentially it, right? It's it's launching it's launching today. It's launching you know, I don't know, like is it launching today? What you guys will I don't we haven't picked a date yet, but I feel like when this episode comes out it's available to for people to look at, right? 'Cause they're gonna go to the URL. Yeah.
Faith (27:53)
Yeah, they will. We are We
Taylor (27:56)
We're flying by the seat of our pain.
Faith (27:57)
swear we have a good job board. We're
Taylor (27:59)
Ha ha ha.
Faith (28:01)
just a little disorganized on the launch date, but it's coming. No, it's September.
Taylor (28:06)
It's September. We just haven't decided like when exactly. Yeah. The date. What date.
Faith (28:10)
Maybe we could just pick a date.
Taylor (28:12)
Right now. We can just pick a date right now. Yeah. I mean, honestly, what, like September fourteenth? That's a day that or that's the day that we would be launching an episode in
Faith (28:24)
Let's
do September fourteenth. September fourteenth.
Taylor (28:27)
Happy September fourteenth. Bye.
Faith (28:30)
The jabboard will be live.
